A refugee coach offers social guidance to refugees with a residence permit who come to live in Groningen from an AZC.
A refugee coach offers social guidance to refugees with a residence permit who come to live in Groningen from an AZC. These 'newcomers' often encounter many problems. Housing, furnishing, a provisional benefit, benefits, a general practitioner and dentist, a school for the children, insurance; this can be quite tricky. Especially for someone who doesn't know the way, barely speaks the language and doesn't know anyone.
Through individual support you can help a refugee to live, integrate and participate in the city of Groningen as quickly and well as possible.
What are your duties:
- You will be linked to a refugee for a minimum period of 6 months;
- You support and guide the refugee towards self-reliance;
- You help with administrative matters and/or you help build a social network.
What we ask
- You have an affinity with refugees;
- You are interested in and respect other lifestyles;
- You want to dedicate at least 1 part of the day per week;
- You are available for at least 6 months;
What we offer

- Individual support by a volunteer coordinator;
Would you like to guide a refugee and show them around in Groningen? Will you help them with all the paperwork they have to go through once they settle here? Do you want to show them where the schools are, the shops and how the bus routes run? You can mean a lot to them from just a few hours a week. And if you don't have an answer yourself, you can always fall back on the professionals.
