Tiny Forest takes the 'urban jungle' concept to a whole new level. It is a mini forest, full of different tree and shrub species. In the middle of a residential area. A place where you can go for adventures and expeditions. To come together, to hide from rain or heat. Or just because you like trees.
“Wow that sounds super good. If only we had more of it! ”Indeed. So that's exactly what you're going to do. And in the following ways:
- Let those green hands flutter and help with planting extra Tiny Forests;
- Collect stories about the adventures people experience in Tiny Forests and use them to involve even more people in the mini-forests;
- More trees, more better? Investigate what the Tiny Forests do for biodiversity, CO2 storage, heat stress and water storage.
In short: your commitment
- February: you get to know each other and the project, you receive training and you make plans;
- March / April: together with others, you plant forests, collect stories and do research. You spread the stories (in a way that you can still think of yourself) to make even more people enthusiastic;
- May / June: collect and spread even more stories to boost the use of forests. And you examine the forests so that you literally and figuratively follow the growth of 'your forests'. You also come up with a plan how all your good work can continue after your assignment has ended.
In short: your impact
You help with planting forests that hopefully ensure more biodiversity, CO2 storage, water storage and combating heat stress (so nice with those searing summers). And so you immediately start to prove whether and how that works in practice.
A very important aspect of Tiny Forests is that it is not nature at a distance, but that people can actually use. Your work helps with more connection between people and forests. Good for nature and people. Basically world improvement in a nutshell.
When?
About 8 hours a week, partly on Friday morning in Tilburg opposite the station and partly in coordination with your fellow trainees.
