Would you enjoy working one-on-one with someone on a learning challenge related to language, math, or digital skills? Then this is for you!

People come to the library with a wide variety of questions, seeking help with language, math, or digital skills. These vary in level, content, and duration. We connect people with a volunteer for guidance. With a diverse group of volunteers, we create the best matches. Visit our website for more information: www.dthw.nl

What are you going to do?

Every week, you'll work with someone for 1 to 1.5 hours on their learning needs. You'll meet at the library. You'll use materials tailored to their learning needs. Depending on their needs, you'll mentor them for anywhere from several weeks to a year. You'll receive instruction from the language house teacher on how to work with the student. You'll become a volunteer language coach for the basic skills you're most passionate about. These could be language, math, or digital skills. What interests you? What aligns with your expertise?

What do we expect from you?

You have a good command of Dutch, and/or you are proficient in math, and/or you are digitally literate. - You have an interested and welcoming attitude towards the person you guide: "Learning is fun." - You are very patient with and demonstrate confidence in the student's learning ability. - You can respond to the resident's needs - You have an open and neutral attitude - You have an affinity with the broad target group of NT1 (Dutch as a first language) or NT2 (Dutch as a second language) - You maintain your knowledge, also on your own initiative - You participate in the basic training, consisting of three half-day sessions.

What do we have to offer you?

You will receive a bblthk membership and an annual gift - A basic training of 3 sessions - Information or training sessions tailored to the specific task you undertake - Monthly informal exchange with other language coaches (Volunteer Café) - Professional guidance and consultation.

What makes the work worth doing?

You see how people gain more self-confidence by participating in a basic skills program. This often allows them to better participate in society.

Working hours

Working hours are determined in consultation between the volunteer, student, and language house teacher. Usually once a week.
