As a co-driver and/or driver, you'll be part of the team that operates the animal ambulance. You'll go out together and complete the journeys.

Who are we

The Nederrijn Animal Ambulance responds to an estimated 3,500 calls annually to help animals in need in the municipalities of Ede, Renkum, Rhenen, Veenendaal, and Wageningen. Our volunteers are available 24/7, 365 days a year!

The main task of the animal ambulance is to help animals in need. These can be animals from the wild, but also found pets. We also make appointments for owners to visit a veterinarian, boarding kennel, or groomer.

As a volunteer, you help animals in need. Every day is different: you might return a lost cat to its owner, rescue a bird caught in a net, or take a sick dog to the vet. Adventurous, meaningful, and rewarding work!

Activities

As a co-driver and/or driver, you'll be part of the team that operates the animal ambulance. You'll go out together and handle calls. Your duties include:

  • The collection and transport of injured, sick and found animals to an owner, veterinarian, crematorium or shelter
  • Maintaining a digital trip log
  • Registering found and/or missing animals
  • Cleaning and replenishing the animal ambulances
  • Other general tasks for the purpose of generating income

What do we ask?

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated volunteers, but we do have a number of requirements:

  • Proficiency in the Dutch language must be good
  • You are at least 20 years old
  • You don't mind working occasional night shifts and weekend shifts
  • You can handle a smartphone, computer and tablet
  • You live in our region (the central office is in Heelsum)
  • You are physically able to do this sometimes heavy work

What do we offer?

Of course we have a lot to offer:

  • You work in a team of enthusiastic colleagues
  • You will receive internal training
  • You will receive clothes on loan
  • You are insured and can claim travel expenses reimbursement
  • You can claim compensation for the sleeping services
  • You can attend all kinds of lectures, courses and training
  • There are plenty of social activities: an annual Christmas gathering; an annual team-building event with a barbecue; an annual New Year's reception, and much more!

Time Spent

You must work at least two shifts per month, otherwise you won't get a feel for the work. The shift times are as follows:

  • 09.00-13.30
  • 13:30-18:00
  • 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM
  • 10 p.m.-9 a.m.

We arrive fifteen minutes before the service begins to allow for handover. Please be aware that services can run considerably over time.

What makes the work worth doing?

Helping an animal in need or an owner is rewarding. Animal happiness is your salary.
