The Kindertelefoon Almelo is looking for volunteers.

Our ideal volunteer

We are looking for people with a genuine interest in the world of children and young people. As a volunteer you find it important that they can talk in confidence about everything that concerns them. Listening without judgment and with an open attitude is your strength. Sometimes a kid calls with a joke, while the next moment you chat about serious problems at home. In short, it is nice if you can switch quickly. You yourself have a stable life and you would like to develop further in the field of listening skills and conversation.

Do you recognize yourself in this? Then working at De Kindertelefoon might be something for you!

What we ask for

In order to speak to as many children as possible, we are looking for volunteers who are willing to commit at least four hours a week and who also want to invest the necessary time to maintain their expertise. Most volunteers spend between four and eight hours a week on their work at De Kindert Telefoon. Volunteer work at De Kindert Telefoon is possible during the day and in the evening, during the week and at the weekend. It is possible to work too flexible, for example to work several half-days in a week and then not for a week.

We are mainly looking for people who want to connect to De Kindert Telefoon for a longer period of time. On average, volunteers spend one to three years with us. Is a long term uncertain for you, but do you have a lot of time in the short term? Then we can see together whether we can still do something for each other.

What do we offer

Intensive, but enriching and meaningful. That's how most volunteers experience their work at De Kindertelefoon. It is very satisfying to be able to do something for someone else. What is at least as important is that you can learn a lot by volunteering yourself. It enriches you as a person.

In order to speak to children and young people as well as possible, you first go through an induction process. De Kindertelefoon offers high-quality training to actually fulfill its function as an expert interlocutor. We are proud of this. The training has been developed in collaboration with Karin de Galan's School for Training. You will receive a certificate after completing the training. You can use this for job applications and to obtain exemptions from courses within certain programs.

Summarized

We ask:

  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You are a good listener, you can connect with the target group and you are equal
  • You are happy to provide support, information and advice
  • You are looking for a volunteer job where you want to spend an average of 4 hours a week
  • You intend to volunteer for at least a year or to be able to work intensively in the short term, so that it leads to a win-win situation
  • You are willing and able to go through the induction process as offered
  • You intend to work four to six shifts per month after the induction process, at least until you have reached the quality level required for the work
  • You are willing and able to invest the necessary time to keep your expertise at the level required for the job
  • You have a higher vocational education level. A HBO diploma is not a requirement, but you are able to work independently, have a proactive attitude, have insight into your own actions and an inquisitive attitude.

We offer

  • A thorough training in conversation with children and young people
  • Growth opportunities in competences such as cooperation, self-development and solution-oriented work
  • A boost for your CV
  • A driven, friendly and enthusiastic team of volunteers
  • Guidance and expertise promotion
