About Cybersoek

Cybersoek is a foundation based in Amsterdam that fights for digital justice.

Society is changing rapidly, and more and more people are struggling to manage everything online on their own. Think of access to healthcare, education, and banking. Through support with questions, a strong educational offering, and affordable laptops, we are committed to helping the people of Amsterdam. You always need the offline world to get online! We want no one to feel alone or lost in this. Together, we find our way in the digital world.

Cybersoek is active in all districts of Amsterdam, with our main location in Amsterdam East at Timorplein 22.

The visitors to Cybersoek vary greatly in age, background, and interests. All our free services are especially aimed at people experiencing social inequality, because we see that this often goes hand in hand with digital inequality.

Days: The schedule can be arranged according to your availability—by day and/or part of the day.

Hours: Full days, for example from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, or half-day shifts are possible in consultation.

Who are we looking for to join our team?

Your role is to welcome, assist, and advise the customers of the Cyberbank.

The Cyberbank is like the food bank, but for laptops. We collect second-hand laptops from companies, individuals, and the government. These laptops are refurbished with the help of our partner ICT vanaf Morgen, a social enterprise that provides ICT training to young people who face barriers to the job market. Residents of Amsterdam with a Stadspas can register for the Cyberbank online, by phone, or at one of our locations. Each month, we offer 300 laptops for €20.

The Cyberbank customers are a diverse group of Amsterdam residents of all ages, districts, and cultural backgrounds. You welcome them, show them their laptop, help them get started with the basic skills, and handle the administrative side of the purchase. If a customer needs more help, you refer them to an expert from the team.

You are genuinely engaged with everyone who walks through the door.

• You have excellent computer skills.
• You contribute to a positive and supportive environment for both staff and volunteers.
• You can de-escalate situations when needed and are extremely patient.
• You are empathetic and connect naturally with people who are different from you.
• You are not afraid to ask for help when needed.

If you apply for this wonderful volunteer position, you’ll shadow our experienced Cyberbank team for a few days. They’ll teach you everything you need to know to hand out laptops to our customers yourself. And of course, we’ll always be nearby to support you.
