Detailed description
People with a serious, chronic and / or life-threatening illness, such as cancer, MS, Non-Congenital Brain Injury (NAH), HIV or AIDS, experience a loss of physical, psychological or social possibilities. Their illness has a major impact on their lives. They can call on a permanent buddy, who offers support in coping with the loss of opportunities. A buddy supports people who: • want to learn how to cope with an illness, as a result of which they cannot do some things; • want to increase their independence; • want to enlarge their living environment. A buddy can offer support in many ways: • Listening and talking about the emotions that being ill evokes; • provide support in dealing with the disease in daily life; • building a social network together; • going out together; • provide support in contacts with doctors and care providers.
