Detailed description
We believe that everyone has the right to a normal life. With our Friendship Programme, [Buddies] from HandicapNL, we help to increase the social life of young people with a physical disability. For this we use a tangible and powerful instrument: friendship!
Friendship is essential for happiness in life, but not for everyone. [Buddies] has 2 separate friendship programs:
- Young people with a mild intellectual disability
- Young people with a physical disability
The program for young people with a physical disability is new and unique in the Netherlands. You can contribute to this by acting as a “Friend”. A “Friend” is a broad-minded young person who looks beyond the disability of a peer and finds it challenging and open to develop a lasting friendship with someone with a physical disability.
What are you going to do?
You will be linked to a young person with a physical disability in your own environment, we call them Friend Seekers. Of course we first make an inventory of who you are and who the Friend Finder is and what you are looking for in a friendship. We match you on age, interests and wishes. After that you are a Friends couple. Together you undertake activities that are appropriate. If you click, we hope that this will lead to a beautiful friendship! You can also participate in a digital platform together or commit yourself or participate in our association life without barriers.
You are part of an enthusiastic team and you gain social experience, which is always of added value for your future career. As a voluntary Friend you will be involved in the activities of [Buddies] and you will participate in training courses and activities that we organize. If you have any questions or run into problems, you can always fall back on the regional manager and the club manager of [Buddies] in your region.
