Buddy to repair clothes and practice Dutch together

Do you enjoy being creative with someone and building a connection gradually?

We are looking for a patient and committed buddy for a woman who is in the process of integrating into Dutch society. Repairing clothes together is your activity, as well as a great way to practice Dutch in a relaxed manner.

What are you going to do?

The woman we support is in the process of becoming a Dutch citizen. Learning Dutch does not come naturally to her. She attends school three times a week, but also needs accessible contact with Dutch people.

Because she has many physical complaints, we want to start slowly. She enjoys repairing clothes, which is why you are going together to the clothing repair workshop at Thuis Wageningen .

Everyone brings their own clothes to repair by hand. There is no pressure to perform: you can both work at your own pace. In the meantime, there is time for a chat, to practice Dutch together, and above all, to have fun.

If this goes well, the next step can be considered in the long term: for example, volunteer work where she can repair clothing, such as at the Repair Café in community center De Nude.

You are her trusted point of contact in this matter.

📅 When?

• once every 14 days
• Tuesday afternoon from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
• Location: clothing repair workshop of Thuis Wageningen

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a woman who is available on Tuesday afternoon and:

• is patient and able to connect well with others;
• can keep up her pace and is in no hurry;
• enjoys being practical and creative together;
• is open to different cultures and customs;
• does not get easily discouraged if Dutch is learned slowly;
• especially wants to be a trusted and sociable companion.

You don't have to be an experienced seamstress. The most important thing is that you enjoy working together and can put the other person at ease.

You get to know someone from another culture in a very accessible way and help her feel more at home in the Netherlands. Doing things together, having a chat, and laughing can already make a big difference.

• You can always contact the VluchtelingenWerk caseworker with any questions.
• Before you start, you will take a training course from VluchtelingenWerk so that you begin well prepared.
• You can participate in meetings with other work buddies to exchange experiences.
