Become a volunteer at the Red Cross WhatsApp Helpline. You will answer questions from people who have fled or migrated to the Netherlands, via the WhatsApp helpline. You will be in contact with Ukrainian refugees, undocumented migrants, asylum seekers, homeless people and more. The questions are very diverse, but the main topics include shelter, medical care, documents and food. Providing clear and reliable information on what a person’s rights are and what options they have in the Netherlands is important in order to access basic needs and to get in contact with the right organizations. Additionally, your empathetic and understanding messages can provide emotional support to those in need.

We are looking for:

Agent WhatsApp Helpline (voluntary)

2 shifts per week on fixed days and times, each 2 hours – fully remote.

What are you going to do?

· Answering questions from people who fled or migrated to the Netherlands via the WhatsApp Helpline.

· Look for relevant information to answer the questions as best as possible.

· Call aid and support organizations to check information or to inquire whether someone can go there for help.

· Provide a listening ear to those in need.

We are looking for someone who:

· Has good communication skills; is empathetic, proactive and flexible.

· Is digitally proficient.

· Has a laptop, good internet connection, knowledge of MS Office, and MS Teams.

· Has good command of English, Dutch (B1 level) is an advantage. Knowledge of any other languages will be beneficial.

· Is available for at least two shifts per week (2 hours each) for at least six months. This volunteer job can easily be combined with your studies or job because the work takes place online. The shifts can be planned between 10.00-18.00. After gaining enough experience it is also possible to take shifts between 18.00-20.00 and during the weekend.

· Work experience with people in a vulnerable situation is an advantage.

· Knowledge of Dutch asylum and migration policy is an advantage.

· The Red Cross looks for volunteers with talent and excellent competencies for this position and is not guided by cultural background, physical limitations, gender identity, religious beliefs, orientation or age.

· A Certificate of Conduct (VOG) is required for this volunteer position.
